10 Money Saving Tips for Grocery Shopping

My grocery bill seems to be growing larger for fewer items. Certainly, I'm not the only one who's noticed this though. I've been working really hard to save money on my groceries since there's no way around doing this type of shopping. With this in mind, here are some tips for you.

Make a List

Before leaving home, make a grocery list! Although this does take time, it also saves you money because you won't be tempted into purchasing things you don't need or that aren't on your list. Plus you won't forget anything so you don't have to go shopping again. This does work even better if you know what you'll be making for the week's meals you'll know exactly what to write on your grocery list. Once you create an affordable menu plan, you can simply rotate it throughout the month, making it easier to budget your grocery bill.

Don't Forget the Coupons

There are lots of different types of coupons available today. You can get them in your paper and online at places like Coupon.com When you have two or more coupons for a single item, find that item on sale and use all of your coupons, you may get the item free.

Check out the Grocery Store Circulars

When the grocery circulars arrive in the mail, I don't simply file them in the trash. I look at what's on sale, and if I have a coupon for it, I'll add it to my stockpile.

Get a Grocery Store Club Card

I've found that most stores now have a club card. This gives you more discounts.

Buy and Cook in Bulk

For those who don't go to the grocery store weekly or who have a big family, consider buying in bulk. This will save you a lot of money, and you can always freeze what you don't need right away. It will stretch your money even further if you also learn to cook in bulk and then use the food throughout the week simply by changing it up a bit.

Look for Secret Sale Items at the Store

There are certain things your grocery store will need to get rid of each week. To do so they'll mark these items down a lot. Keep an eye out for a bin full of these items or red tags on them.

Shop in More than One Store

Determine which stores in your area are affordable for what items. Then make a trip to two different stores: one for fruits and vegetables and one for everything else.
